V Knits

My name is Venus. I knit as much as possible, while juggling work and various other activities. Currently, my yarn sprees hinder my ability to save up for trips and other important things. But I'm not apologizing.

FO FO FO

Okay, so I haven't exactly been the best blogger lately. But I am here now with FO pictures. Yay! First up are the Rainbow glove mitts. Done and done and already pilling from my wearing them everyday at work. (And my having used cheapy acrylic yarn). I love them and I have to make more. Actually, just today I got an email from my good friend Jennn and this is what she was saying. "I have to find cute fingerless mittens with the part that can cover up the fingerlessness...(you know what I mean? The foldover ones?) so that I have something to keep my hands from freezing while I am on the computer. Any suggestions on where to find them?" Hello! Looky here! I'll make them for you!
These are prototype mitts too so they are not mirror-image perfect. But I've learned so much! Like don't so cables with variegated yarn. Too busy. Too much. Also, next one I do will have one big braid cable instead of two small ones. (I am using a solid color, not variegated.) I think That'll look cool. There is so much to love about these though! I can't believe I put off finishing them for so long. What a fool I have been!

Pattern:
V Knits Fingerless Glove Mitts 2005

Yarn:
Bernat Sox (60% Acrylic/40% Nylon)
203yrds/186m/50g in Crazy Hot (2 balls- 1 1/2 used)

Needles:
2.5mm metal dpns set of 5

Pros:
Love them! And I love making up my own patterns too. I'll be knitting these again very soon. Most knitters love knitting socks. These mitts are to me, what socks are to most knitters.

Cons:
None really. Other than they are not symmetrical, due to them being the test pair. None the less, I will wear them to threads.

Now, FO #2. Alpaca Paint Scarf. Which I see now is Luxury Collection: Alpaca Paint. (Check me out in my Henry Rollins Search and Destroy 25 Years of Bullshit shirt.)

Pattern:
V Knits Wavy Stitch Scarf 2005

Yarn:
Luxury Collection: Alpaca Paint (100% FS Alpaca)
100m/50g in DY004 (Lot 59852) (3 balls)

Needles:
4.5mm straight needles (in retro red!)

Pros:
Can't get enough of knitting with alpaca. And I think the colors themselves are warm enough to keep me safe from all cold weather. I guess it helps that they are in scarf form. Also, learning from the mitts I just finished, I chose a stitch pattern that shows off the colors and isn't too busy to look at. Go me! Also, this was a super quick knit. I'll use this pattern if I need a quick gift for a birthday or something.

Cons:
None, other than it's over. Is there a name for the weird happiness/sadness sense of accomplishment mixed with disappointment that I frequently get after finishing a project I really love? Ah, well. On to the next!

Two Things...

First thing's first. This is one of many reasons why I love BUST Magazine. Debbie Stoller, the Editor-in-Chief of BUST is the woman behind the Stitch n' Bitch books. So naturally you will find articles, advertisements and the like that are all about knitting. The Dec/Jan issue has an article on dudes who knit. Secondly, sweet ol' Gladys was at my work bright and early to drop off some old yarn she's had kicking around. She also gave me the started half of the sweater she had been knitting for her husband. She told me specifically that is was brought from Scotland. She is so cute.
